Pero Primero, Una Selfie

Every student enjoys capturing a good selfie, so why not incorporate "selfies" into Spanish I where students are learning a brand new language.  Mrs. Gomez at Tidwell Middle School presented her students with the task of creating an interactive selfie that includes a written and verbal conversation in Spanish.  Students used ThingLink to link a written conversation to their selfie using Google Docs.  Along with the written conversation, students practiced their pronunciation and fluency by linking to a recording of their conversation using Vocaroo.

Ruby is one student who got a lot out of this project.  Ruby writes, "I liked the technology aspect of this project.  It was complicated at times, but I learned more about my tablet and how to use many different Google apps.  I can use these apps for other projects as well."  Students got to choose their own team members and Ruby truly enjoyed the collaboration aspect of this project.  "We had great teamwork and we all put forth a lot of effort.  This project made us create something that we were unfamiliar with and it turned out really great.  Plus, I got to know some of the people in my Spanish class." Overall Ruby concludes, "I liked the freedom that Mrs. Gomez gave us for our project.  It was an awesome experience."

Connor represents another student that truly enjoyed this project and couldn't wait to get started.  In a reflection Connor writes, "I fully enjoyed the freedom for creativity that this project allowed." Connor also realized that before technology this project would not have been possible.  Connor claims, "I really will consider using these websites in further assignments, because I've become more familiar with them."  Students from the class enjoyed utilizing their dell tablet camera to capture their selfie and some students even chose to edit their pictures using a variety of editing sites and apps.
